TotalEnergies has been selected as a joint venture partner by NOC QatarEnergy to develop its North Field East LNG project, the French super-major announced on Sunday.

The agreement will see TotalEnergies take a 25% stake in the newly formed company, with QatarEnergy holding the remaining equity.

The USD 27.6-billion North Field East project began construction in 2019. The development will add 32 million tonnes per year of LNG to the country’s export capacity with its four 8-million-tonnes-per-year trains.

Upstream elements of the project include eight platforms, 80 wells and gas pipelines.

Production is expected to begin in 2025, with full production expected by 2027.
